What gas prices comprise of
The price of commercial gas price is made up of several components: gas purchase (energy procurement), grid charges (energy distribution), and taxes (state levy).
Grid usage fees and taxes are fixed and constitute 50% of the gas price. The gas supplier can influence the remaining 50% through energy procurement, distribution costs, and the profit margin.
Purchasing gas – energy procurement
Die Energiebeschaffung macht etwa 40 % des Gesamtpreises für Gewerbegas aus. Dazu gehört hauptsächlich der Kaufpreis, welcher an der Energiebörse in Leipzig festgelegt wird und noch teilweise von der Ölpreisentwicklung abhängt. Kosten für Import, Speicherung und Verteilung zählen ebenfalls zu den Beschaffungskosten.
Diese sind bei Erdgas deutlich höher als bei Strom, weil der Hauptanteil des Erdgases in Deutschland importiert wird. Die restlichen 10 % fallen für Vertriebskosten an, wobei die Gasanbieter meist eine Marge einbehalten.
Grid charges and taxes
The amount paid in Germany for grid charges is regulated and monitored by the Federal Network Agency. The share of grid charges makes up approximately 20% of the commercial gas price. Grid charges are levied by the gas supplier and passed on to the network operator.
The remaining 30% of the commercial gas price is comprised of taxes and concession fees. The concession fee depends on the size of the local municipality. The taxes include VAT (19%), natural gas tax, the biogas levy (BGU), and the control energy levy. The biogas levy (BGU) and the concession fees are paid to the city or local municipality by the grid operator for the right to use public transport routes for laying and operating the gas networks.
